Russell G. Burwell III graduated from Dickinson High School in 1982, the University of Texas with a B.B.A. in Accounting in 1986 and the University of Houston Law Center in 1992. He has been Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1998 and Civil Trial Advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy since 2001. Russ is also a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.

Russ is a past Director of the State Bar of Texas, President of the Galveston County Bar Association, Director of the Texas Young Lawyers Association and President of the Galveston County Young Lawyers Association. He was the Galveston County Outstanding Young Lawyer in 2000. He is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Texas Trial Lawyers Association (sustaining member) and Houston Trial Lawyers Association. He is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education seminars and is a delegate of the Galveston County AFL-CIO.

Russ is an avid fisherman, hunter and musician. He lives in Friendswood with his wife Julie and their daughter, Blair.
